The Senior Manager, Safety provides strategic direction and daily oversight to the salaried cast members involved in developing, implementing, and sustaining essential safety programs within designated business areas. This role necessitates the application of sound technical judgment in directing the identification, assessment, analysis, and resolution of a broad spectrum of safety issues across various businesses.
The Senior Manager, Safety reports directly to the Director, Safety Services and leads a team of approximately 10 to 15 safety professionals.
What You Will Do
On any given day, as a Senior Manager, Safety, you might:
- Deliver results by leading the team in formulating strategies to eliminate or minimize loss exposures and enhance compliance within the assigned business sector.
- Oversee the implementation of safety programs, conduct job task analyses, analyze injury and illness trend data, evaluate safety performance, and identify opportunities for improvement in safety outcomes.
- Define team responsibilities and assignments and approve annual member strategies.
- Delegate work tasks, offer leadership, compile and synthesize team feedback to develop recommended action plans, and analyze data and trends to foster incident reduction and hazard mitigation.
- Enhance performance by reviewing relevant materials (rules, codes, laws, and standards) and sharing industry best practices.
- Serve as the primary liaison for client senior executives.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety standards, facilitating the resolution of complex issues beyond established regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with all levels of leadership and employees, including in a matrix-style organizational structure.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Here’s what you need to be successful at this job:
- A minimum of 10 years of industrial safety experience in a related field (e.g., petrochemical, construction, maintenance, manufacturing, hospitality, entertainment/theatrical, transportation, distribution/warehouse).
- Familiarity with relevant regulatory and industry standards, specifically Cal OSHA.
- Proficiency in utilizing analytics to identify trends.
- Project management experience.
- Professional creativity and comfort in solving problems outside one’s primary area of expertise.
- Experience thriving in environments that require adaptability and navigating ambiguity.
- A strong background in planning, prioritization, and organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in conflict resolution and managing challenging situations.
- Robust consultative experience and proficiency in guiding decisions within a collaborative context.
- Experience in delivering training and presentations.
- Proven ability to independently or lead a team in achieving above-average incident reduction results through targeted safety strategies and tactics.
Preferred Qualifications
It would be great if you also have:
- Foundational knowledge in ergonomic assessments, risk assessment, industrial hygiene, or food safety.
- Experience in leading teams with direct reports.
- Proficiency in bilingual communication.
Education
Required Education
- 4-year college degree
Preferred Education
- A four-year degree in Occupational or Construction Safety or Safety Engineering is preferred.
- An advanced degree in Occupational or Construction Safety or Safety Engineering is also highly regarded.
- Relevant certifications such as CSP, CIH, or PE are desirable.

The hiring range for this position in California is $151,000.00-$202,500.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
